Tulsa Botanic Blooms: Celebrating Spring
Tulsa Botanic Garden ushers in spring with Tulsa Botanic Blooms
Tulsa Botanic Garden invites everyone to celebrate the start of spring at the Garden with “Tulsa Botanic Blooms” a display of over 100,000 bulbs including tulips, hyacinths, crocuses and more.
“The seasonal color in the A.R. and Marylouise Tandy Floral Terraces encompasses over 5,700 square feet and surrounds the central water feature; it is the concentrated floral showcase of the garden,” says Garden CEO Dr. Todd Lasseigne. He adds, “Much work has gone into the design, planning and planting of this display and we’re excited to share this with our community. We’ve received wonderful support and we hope that the stunning colors, design and fragrances will provide our visitors a place of beauty, to enjoy with family and friends.”
Each year bulbs will be planted in an intricate Art Deco-inspired planting design. For 2016, bulbs were planted in geometric design using chevrons. Color palettes will also change each year to provide new, dynamic displays each spring.
Lasseigne encourages visitors to come out, “This is just the beginning – we encourage everyone to come out and see the Garden as it comes alive with all types of flowers and color.”
At the end of the bulb display, horticulture staff remove all the bulbs to refresh the soil and immediately begin planting a new display of summer annuals. Fall brings another change of plants and preparation for bulb planting for the following spring.
